Phosphorus is an essential element required in metabolic processes, protein synthesis, and growth of corals and macroalgae. It is important to maintain phosphorus levels along with nitrogen levels in order to allow for optimal growth and coloration of corals and macroalgae.
Supplementing with Reef Phosphorus™ provides a targeted means of increasing phosphorus concentrations effectively without also adding dissolved organics. Reef Phosphorus™ is easily dosed manually as well. Ideal phosphorus levels will vary but generally range from 0.02 - 0.05 mg/L phosphate. Reef Phosphorus™ contains 0.117% elemental phosphorus. Use Seachem’s Reef Nitrogen™ to achieve a balance of nitrogen and phosphorus levels for optimal results.
Use 1/2 cap (2.5 mL) per 160 L (40 US gallons) once a week or as needed to maintain desired phosphorus levels.
The beginner dose raises phosphate by 0.05 mg/L. To target a specific phosphate level, increase dose according to the following formula: 0.31vn=m where v= volume of tank in liters, n=desired phosphate increase, and m= volume of product to use in ml. For example, to raise 160 liters by 0.05 mg/L phosphate you would use 0.31*160*0.05 resulting in 2.5 ml to dose. For reference: 1 US gallon=3.8 L.
